Privacy Policy

How CipherRun handles your data and protects your privacy

Last updated: April 2026

1. Overview

CipherRun (accessible at cipherun.com) is a purely static educational website. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data — if any — is collected and how it is handled.

The short version: CipherRun does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to any server. All interactive features run entirely in your browser. Your data stays on your device.

2. Data Collection

2.1 No Server-Side Data Collection

CipherRun has no backend, no database, no analytics server, and no API endpoints. We do not collect:

  • Personal identification information (name, email, etc.)
  • IP addresses or geolocation data
  • Browsing history or click tracking
  • Device fingerprinting data
  • Cookies for tracking purposes

2.2 Client-Side Local Storage

CipherRun uses your browser's localStorage to save certain preferences and progress data on your device only. This data never leaves your browser. Specifically, we store:

  • Quiz progress: Your answers, score, and completion status so you can resume the quiz later.
  • Font size preference: Your preferred reading font size on educational pages.
  • Tool history: Recent inputs/outputs from interactive tools (optional, for convenience).

You can clear this data at any time by:

  • Opening your browser's developer tools → Application → Local Storage → cipherun.com → Clear
  • Using your browser's "Clear browsing data" feature

3. External Resources

CipherRun loads the following third-party resources from Content Delivery Networks (CDNs):

  • Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) — for web typography (Orbitron, Inter, Fira Code). Google may collect your IP address when fonts are loaded. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Font Awesome (cdnjs.cloudflare.com) — for icons. Cloudflare's CDN may log standard access data. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

These are standard, widely-used CDN resources. CipherRun does not control and is not responsible for the data practices of these third-party services.

4. Interactive Tools

All interactive tools on CipherRun (cipher encrypt/decrypt, password strength checker, hash calculator, Morse code converter, etc.) process data entirely within your browser using JavaScript. No data entered into any tool is sent to any server, logged, or stored beyond your browser's localStorage.

5. Cookies

CipherRun does not set any cookies. No tracking cookies, session cookies, or any other type of cookie is used.

6. Third-Party Tracking

CipherRun does not use:

  • Google Analytics or any analytics platform
  • Advertising trackers or retargeting pixels
  • Social media tracking widgets
  • Any form of user tracking or profiling

7. Children's Privacy

CipherRun is an educational resource suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since no personal data is collected by our site, this is inherently protected.

8. Data Security

Since CipherRun does not collect or store any user data on its servers, there is no risk of server-side data breach. All client-side data stored in localStorage is protected by your browser's security model. We recommend keeping your browser updated for the best security.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

10. Contact
